"AutoTune...Breaking H.E.R. Heart"

Last year, Ice-T, you know, the "Rapper-Turned-Actor-Turned-Pimp of all things Silicone," outed Soulja Boy as the culprit of the murder of hip-hop music.

"Soulja Boy, eat a d@#$," cried the man who once caught hell for singing a song called "Cop Killer."

Immediately following that, Soulja Boy him self birdwalked his ass over to the computer to "Superman" that old geezer...

After a couple of more exchanges, and a pointless rant by Ice-T's son, Baby Ice, or Little Ice...I logged off and went to my car, only to turn on the radio to hear yet another song by T-Pain...

The only problem was, it wasn't T-Pain.

It was Kanye West. After that, came on Yung Berg's "The Bizness." After that, Ron Browz and Jim Jones, "Pop Champagne." Finally concluded with Janet Jackson's "Feedback." Janet's not really hip-hop, but you get my drift.

At that moment, I felt like I was in a very bad dream, or a movie about having a bad dream...you know the ones that when you try to turn the station, the same song is playing on EVERY station, then you try to turn it off, then it mysteriously comes back on? I was really miffed at myself because I had left my iPod, and the only CD's I generally keep in the car are the ones that I have working copies of my own music on.

I started thinking about Lipton Ice-T for a moment. Not only was his rant at Soulja Boy inappropirate...it was also, well, flat out wrong.

You see people, Soulja Boy, or anyone like him, could never be a threat to Hip-Hop music, but this Auto-Tune sh#t? You know this program that that allows everyone that can't sing a lick, to actually, "correct their pitch," is what's killing hip-hop. Straight up...I remember when a brother couldn't sing, but he wanted to sing, he jumped his no singing ass on the mic and did it anyway....and it was fresh!

Even back then, it was only the chorus...now rappers are singing whole songs, putting them out as singles, and even making whole albums with AutoTune's assistance. It's so rampant now that even T-Pain himself has cried out about it, as though his idea wasn't stolen from the late, great Roger Troutman to begin with...but that's another story.

Rappers are too busy singing and whatnot, that nobody's rapping anymore? The MC's are being put on the backburner, and if you don't have a single featuring AutoTune, you're going nowhere. Go to Sam Ash or Guitar Center, get you a box of the good stuff and get yourself a hit! Top 10 baby! Forget whomever the real artist is on the track, he/she is just an accessory. As long as we've got a fresh box of AutoTune software running, we can replace them. I can make a roach sound good on there! Let's get this money!

We're going to need it to bury our beloved hip-hop.

The EMCEE Series, Vol. 1: To Battle or Not to Battle

What's up y'all! Mr. Young here...
Saw this today and I figured it would be a good way to kick off my blog.

To Battle or Not to Battle? That is the Question...

Charles Hamilton vs. Serius Jones

106 & Park Freestyle Friday - Jin vs. Sterling

Lady Luck vs. Remy Ma

Is the ability to battle still necessary to be respected as an MC these days? Given the current climate of hip-hop, is battling a lost art? Discuss...
